This extremely comfortable guesthouse is set on a peaceful, leafy road just 5 minutes walk from St Stephens Green. Much of the Georgian character remains, such as the ceiling cornicing, hardwood parquet floors, and the fine staircase. The sitting room on the ground floor is particularly intimate, with a fire glowing through the cold months of the year. The rooms are brightly inviting in white and yellow, and those facing the front have commodious bay windows. There is no elevator, so consider requesting a room on the lower floor. Breakfast here is especially good, featuring homemade breads.

For over 10 years Kilronan House has been offering visitors to Dublin a warm welcome. Eight of the bedrooms are in the main house, all but two having snug en-suite shower rooms. However, my choice would be to stay in one of the four rooms in the "new wing" that stretches behind the house. These have no view (in fact instead of windows you have an expanse of glass-block walls) but they have a little more space and larger bathrooms. Naturally, there is a full Irish breakfast on the menu but the most popular items are pancakes with syrup and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. There are a variety of nearby restaurants that range from family establishments offering good value for money to ones providing a special night out on the town. A five minute walk finds you at St. Stephens Green, where you can stroll through the park to Grafton Street, the shopping heart of the town. Directions: From the east side of St. Stephens Green (opposite the Shelbourne hotel) go straight into Earlsfort Terrace and take the second right into Adelaide Road where you find Kilronan House on your right after 100 metres. Double-park in front to unload and you will be directed to the bed and breakfast's off street parking.
"A five-minute walk from St. Stephen's Green... (Kilronan) guest house is a long-standing favourite with vacationers - thanks in large measure to the friendly welcome they receive. The large, late-19th-century terraced house, with a white facade, was carefully converted, and the decor and furnishings are updated each year. Richly patterned wallpaper and carpets grace the bedrooms, while orthopaedic beds (rather rare in Dublin hotels, let alone guest houses) help to guarantee a restful night's sleep. Homemade breads are served at the full Irish breakfast." (pages 71-72) "This white-fronted, mid-nineteenth century terraced house is superbly positioned on a tree-lined street just 5 minutes from St Stephen’s Green. A recent refurbishmenthas brought new life to this long established guesthouse: the public lounge is a welcoming space with high ceilings, an open fireplace and comfortable furniture. Many of the original Georgian features are still visible, from the cornicing and ceiling roses, to the fine staircase connecting the three floors. There are eight neat, compact bedrooms in the main house, some with large bay windows to the front. Six of them have shower rooms, and all are freshly decorated in creams and whites. Four spacious bedrooms occupy the new ‘wing’. Delicious homemade pancakes with syrup top the bill at breakfast, alongside smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, freshly baked bread and the traditional full Irish."
"You wouldn't really want to be more central than this address, just round the corner from St. Stephen's Green, but very peaceful and leafily residential. This is a well-to-do Georgian townhouse (1834), not grand but very comfortable with its original cornicing and ceiling roses. There was a slightly old-fashioned, almost self-consciously dated feel to Kilronan until the (owner's) overhaul... which transformed the place. He opened up the two rooms on the ground floor which increased the space and light. He found lovely 1830's parquet flooring hidden under the old carpets. Big mirrors and wooden chairs now grace the new look dining room, elegant armchairs adorn the sitting area, yellows and whites brighten inviting bedrooms.... A very friendly retreat in a big city."
