| Opera
Ireland is the city's
own opera company. Throughout the year a number of spectacular productions
are performed. Opera
Ireland does not have its own theatre. This is actually something of a blessing.
The venue now being used is the Gaiety
Theatre.
The Gaiety's acoustics
are quite decent and the decor is smashing. Of course, besides Opera the
Gaiety offers a mix of theatre productions and musical events. During the Christmas season there are also fabulous Panto shows. Panto, or Pantomime, are light hearted variety shows based loosely on mashed fairy tales. The cast of characters is always similar with a witch and handsome prince, beautiful maiden in distress and her loopy servants. These shows are an enduring and wonderful Irish tradition - and a load of laughs. Kids love them, but any adult who leaves without a smile must have Scrooge genes. Best of all, the Gaiety's location is ideal since it sits just off St. Stephen's Green where it meets Grafton Street - the heart of Dublin's shopping district. The local streets abound with street musicians, neat restaurants, and shops. Grafton Street is pedestrianised, St. Stephen's Green is part of the Ireland's protected Park system and the whole area is alive and buzzing. And... it's all only a five minute walk from Kilronan House. Of course, Kilronan House will be happy to reserve tickets for you. Want more information about the sights of Dublin? More Info.
